<p>Cardio exercise is such a strange thing. In theory, it should work<br />
so perfectly well for all men and women, but as anyone who has<br />
tried it knows, the practicality of it just doesn&#8217;t add up.</p>
<p>After all, some men and women do cardio 6 hours, 9 hours, or more per week, and still have belly fat to burn. On the other hand, it works just fine for others.</p>
<p>British researchers wanted to get more insight into this paradox, and studied 35 overweight men and women, who weren&#8217;t previously exercising.</p>
<p>(Reference: International Journal of Obesity 32: 177-184, 2008).</p>
<p>Subjects exercised 5 times per week for 12 weeks. That&#8217;s a lot of<br />
exercise, but it helped the subjects lose an average of 8.2 pounds, which is great - I was positively surprised by the results.</p>
<p>So cardio will work for some people, however, in my experience, it works best in young men, who need the help the least!</p>
<p>Back to the study, the variance in fat loss between individuals was huge. Check this out&#8230;</p>
<p>The best subject lost a staggering 32.3 pounds in 12 weeks, while the worst subject actually GAINED 3.74 pounds.</p>
<p>The scientists think they know where things went sour. They<br />
classified the subjects into 2 groups, called the &#8220;Compensators&#8221;<br />
and the &#8220;Non-compensators&#8221;.</p>
<p>The Compensators were hungrier, and as a result consumed an extra 268 calories per day, all but wiping out their cardio efforts.</p>
<p>Therefore, the Compensators lost the least amount of weight, and scientists believe that was due to the huge &#8220;compensatory&#8221; increase in appetite experienced by this group.</p>
<p>Does your appetite increase when you do slow cardio? If it does,<br />
research shows it will ruin your cardio efforts.</p>
<p>So if your cardio program is not working for you, check your<br />
appetite and calorie intake to see if you are &#8220;compensating&#8221; for<br />
your efforts. If you are, you might be better off using a program<br />
of high-intensity resistance and interval training (i.e. Turbulence Training) for your weight loss efforts.</p>
<p>As Australian Professor Steve Boucher has shown in research,<br />
interval training increases hormones called catecholamines. And<br />
increased catecholamines can reduce appetite, among other fat-<br />
burning benefits.</p>
<p>In the real world, few people lose 33 pounds after 12 weeks of<br />
cardio. Heck, few even achieve an average weight loss of 8 pounds with aerobic exercise.</p>
<p>So again, check your appetite, and consider giving high-intensity<br />
exercise a go for your next workout program.</p>

They know that having the extra weight is not good for them but they can’t motivate themselves to shift those pounds. This is the same scenario as smokers, they know that smoking is bad for them but they will continue smoking because they don’t want to put in the effort to give up. The only way to lose weight is by motivating yourself to do it. For example if you smoked a lot and you were told that the tar in your body would kill you by next year would you quit smoking? Yes because you don’t want to die now do you? The same goes for weight loss there are actually a lot of motivational sectors for losing weight and in this article I will go through the top 3.</p>
<p>Firstly, losing weight keeps you healthy. Being overweight means that you may have/get high blood pressure, strokes, cancer, diabetes and heart problems. Most weight loss methods include some sort of exercise and exercise will keep you healthy and stop you from getting any of those problems mentioned above. By tackling your &#8220;weight problem&#8221; you will reduce the risk of these problems and you will grow up to see your kids or grandchildren and I think that that is big motivation for losing weight.</p>
<p>Secondly, you will feel a whole lot better. When you are overweight you will feel tired quite a lot because you will have reduced energy levels (the extra weight can feel like a burden at times and that will bring down your energy levels). This leads to less physical activity and this causes the fat that you intake everyday to pile up and become stored in your body. By losing weight you will start to feel your energy levels rising, you will be able to do physical sports which will aid to even more weight loss and soon you will start to feel a lot better.</p>
<p>The final reason is how good you will look. When you wake up in the morning and see yourself in the mirror do you like what you see? Do you imagine yourself with less fat? Well weight loss can turn you into that. Most people hate something about themselves, for instance I hate my hair but do you know what I did? I got it done and now I love it! The point I’m trying to get to here is that if you don’t like the way you look do something about it. A lot of people who are overweight and don’t like the way they look go on weight loss diets and as they see themselves losing weight, their self-esteem rockets through the sky. They will no longer be ashamed to take their top of at the beach. Changing how you look will also get you noticed, your friends will start saying things like have you lost weight, you look good and other compliments.</p>
<p>As I said before, losing weight can be a struggle without motivation. Once you have got some motivation then start losing weight and don’t give up because you can’t be bothered, do you really want heart diseases or strokes? I didn’t think so.</p>

<p>A factor in losing weight and belly fat is having a balanced pH.  When you drink colas that are highly acidic, it negatively affects your pH.  When your pH becomes acidic from drinking phosphoric acid, you will have a more difficult time losing weight and getting a flat stomach.  Fat is a buffer for chemicals like phosphoric acid, so consuming acid in colas can actually increase body fat.  If you want a flat stomach you should be careful about your cola intake.</p>
<p>In addition to avoiding cola beverages, the second thing you should avoid is sugar-laden drinks and juices.  Sugar-laden juices usually have tons of chemicals like artificial colors and artificial flavors, and 80-100 calories per serving.  Drink a 16 ounce glass of a sugar-laden juice and you&#8217;re looking at 40-50 grams of sugar water and 120-200 calories.  Do your best to mostly drink water, herbal teas, and freshly squeezed or blended juices.</p>
<p>The third thing to avoid if you want to lose weight and get a flat stomach is trans fat and fried foods.  Trans fat has been linked to numerous health problems, but it will also do a number on your waistline.  If you truly want to lose stomach fat, then you must limit your consumption of trans fat and fried foods.</p>
<p>The fourth thing to avoid is eating out at restaurants.  Now, I understand that everyone likes a nice dinner out, but if you want to lose weight you must use moderation and try to avoid eating the majority of your meals in fast food restaurants and fine dining restaurants.  Typical restaurant meals, including bread, appetizers, main course, and dessert, and drinks, can easily pack more than 2000 calories.  For many people, 2000 calories is the recommended daily allowance, and some restaurant meals can be in excess of 2000 calories.  If you can get in the habit of cooking and preparing more of your meals at home, you will find that it will be much easier to lose weight.</p>
<p>The fifth thing to avoid if you want to lose stomach fat is excessive stress.  I know that life can be hectic, and I know that it can be hard to avoid certain stressors.  Stress can negatively affect the metabolism by elevating stress hormones that cause your body to store fat.  Elevated levels of the stress hormone cortisol, can make it really difficult to lose abdominal fat.</p>

However, in addition to eating well and exercising, try to avoid consuming excessive amounts of colas, fried foods, sugar-laden drinks, and restaurant meals, and also do your best to combat daily stress.  By avoiding things that negatively affect your metabolism, it will be easier to lose weight and get a flat stomach.</p>
